A Short History Of The North Queensland Cowboys
They won their only premiership trophy in 2015. It was during the first-ever all Queensland grand final, and they defeated the Brisbane Broncos in golden point to win 17 to 16. It definitely was a nail biter. Beloved by Queenslanders from the far north to the wild west, before becoming the Cowboys, suggested names including the Marlins, Stingrays, and the Crocodiles were tossed around before the people spoke and the ‘Cowboys’ became the official team name. The navy blue and yellow were chosen to reflect Townsville’s representative sides, with grey and white also added in. The very distinct steer head logo has remained throughout the club’s career, with only minor changes. In the early years, the logo featured on a white background. In 2003, the font was modernised, and a yellow star was added.
Updated North Queensland Cowboys Merchandise
In 2020 the club celebrated its 25th season with a new logo. It’s described as a modern take on the very first logo, with the bull horns a dominant feature. The club name is placed in an arc surrounding the horns, much like the original, but with a crisper, smoother typeface.
