A Short History Of The Roosters

The Sydney Roosters, were founded in 1908, in Paddington, and were known as the Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Club (which is why they are affectionately known as Easts), before they were named The Sydney City Roosters in 1995, before becoming the Sydney Roosters in 2000. Today, the Sydney Roosters are the only foundation club still going, to have competed in every professional season since the inception. The Roosters won their first premiership in 1911, and have gone on to win 15 premierships, making them one of the most successful teams in the history of the NRL (only the South Sydney Rabbitohs have won more as of October 2020), and they’ve won more minor premierships than any other club.

Wear Your Roosters Merchandise With Pride

The first official Sydney Roosters logo was used in 1967, when the team was still called Eastern Suburbs, with the motto ‘Easts to Win’. The introduction of the logo brought no victories for the club that year. While it’s not exactly known why the rooster was chosen, it’s believed that the mascot was inspired by the French national team, and the red, white, and blue colours also reflect that theory. There have also been two times in the club's history when those colours were not able to be worn. The first was May 22 to June 26, 1920, when there was a scarcity of wool, and the second was World War 2, when the dye was needed for the war effort. Luckily today, you can find all your Roosters colours with no issue at all here at The Stubby Club.
