A Short History Of The Melbourne Storm
While fans now know them as the 'Mighty Storm', the original club names were quite different. The Melbourne Mavericks was the original name, and the logo was a gunslinger holding dollars. Media mogul Lachlan Murdoch eventually convinced them to change it because it sounded too American. Some other suggested names included trams and flying foxes, but the CEOs decided to stick with lighting, power, and storms – and so the mighty Melbourne Storm was born. Today, the Storm is also known for their navy blue and purple jersey, but this was not always the case, with white and yellow sometimes used as minor colours. All four colours were used in the logo until 2017 when the yellow was removed, and it was returned to just navy blue and purple.
Wear Your Melbourne Storm NRL Merchandise With Pride
Over the years, the Melbourne Storm logo has been quite dynamic, with the 'Storm Man' over the top of a cloud and throwing a bolt of lightning. As part of the club's 20th anniversary in 2017, a new logo was used, with the cloud replaced by a shield, and the anniversary commemoration. As the anniversary rolled over, the club was rebranded again. They launch a new logo (a derivation of the 'Storm Man' from the anniversary logo) which is bolder, and the team name 'Storm' is more pronounced.
