Get Your Broncos Merchandise Here

The Brisbane Broncos we know and love were introduced into the competition in 1988, winning their first six games, and becoming one of only three teams to have won every grand final they ever contested. However, Brisbane's history of rugby league started long before that. If you're a Brisbane Broncos fan, make sure you get all your Broncos Merchandise online here at The Stubby Club. But, before you do, let's take a brief step back in time, and learn a bit more about the Broncos.

A Short History Of The Brisbane Broncos

Brisbane actually had its own rugby league club competition way back in 1909, when they competed against Sydney-based and international touring teams. But by the 1980s, the NSW Rugby Football League premiership decided to add some teams to their draw from outside of Sydney. This started with the Canberra Raiders and the Illawarra Steelers. In 1985, the initial invitation was extended, but this was voted down. It wouldn't be until 1988 when Brisbane was finally able to enter a team, and it was the bid that belonged to former Brisbane Rugby League players, Barry Maranta and Paul 'Porky' Morgan that was successful. To keep up with the use of alliteration for local sporting teams, they tossed around names such as Bulls, Brumbies, and Bombers, but eventually, the club settled on the Broncos. This was chosen by Maranta because he was a fan of the NFL team the Denver Broncos.

Wear Your Broncos Merchandise With Pride

The original plan for the Brisbane Broncos logo was to incorporate a Kangaroo, then they looked at flowers like the Cooktown Orchid and the Poinsettia, but these were ruled out along with other animals like the brumby, possum, galah, and kookaburra. In the end, a horse named Buck the Bronco was made the official mascot, and you'll find him on all your favourite Broncos merch. If you're the biggest Broncos fan, then make sure everyone knows it, with the best in Broncos Merchandise from The Stubby Club.
