A Little Bit About Melbourne City FC
Melbourne City FC has experienced a few changes over the years. They were founded in 2009 as Melbourne Heart, before being rebranded in mid-2014. The original name 'Melbourne Heart' was chosen in an online competition, giving fans the opportunity to submit their preferences. The name 'Melbourne Heart' was about to be announced at the end of 2009, but this was delayed. There were objections to the words' Melbourne', 'Football' and 'Club.' The Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation also had concerns that the name was too similar to that of their annual appeal. Eventually, at the start of 2010, Melbourne Heart FC was announced. With changes and a takeover in 2014, the new name 'Melbourne City FC' was finally unveiled on June 5, 2014.

Many fans were uneasy about the change of the club from Heart to City, including the perceived abandoning of the club's traditional red and white colour scheme. There have been many arguments over the years about the colours, but the 2020/21 home jersey features the iconic City blue palette with a new button collar design, plus city blue socks and shorts. The 2020/21 away jersey is primarily black and crimson red, paired with black shorts and socks. And the third jersey incorporates the traditional red and white with a modern pinstripe design, matched with white shorts and socks.
